How Often Should a Business Post on Social Media? A Practical Guide by Platform
How often should a business post on social media? Get practical starting points for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and Google, plus why consistency beats volume.

"How often should we be posting?" is one of the most common questions we hear from business owners. And it's a fair question. Post too little and people forget you exist. Post too much and quality drops, your team burns out, and your audience tunes out.
Here's a practical answer, including starting points for each platform and why consistency matters more than volume.
The Short Answer
For most small businesses, three to five quality posts per week on your main platform is a strong, sustainable target.
But the right number for you depends on three things:
How much quality content you can realistically create
Which platforms your customers actually use
What you want social media to do for your business
Consistency Beats Volume
Posting seven times one week and then disappearing for a month hurts more than it helps. Platforms and people both reward businesses that show up reliably.
It's better to post three times a week every week than to post every day for two weeks and then stop. Pick a pace you can keep up for the long haul.
Starting Points by Platform
These are general starting points, not hard rules. Adjust based on what your audience responds to.
3 to 5 feed posts or Reels per week, plus Stories several times a week. Reels tend to reach the most new people, while Stories keep you in front of your existing followers.
3 to 5 posts per week. Facebook still works well for reaching local communities, especially older audiences. Sharing in local groups (when allowed) can extend your reach.
2 to 3 posts per week. Great for B2B businesses, professional services, and recruiting. Posts from the owner's personal profile often outperform company page posts.
TikTok
3 to 5 videos per week, or more if you can keep quality up. TikTok rewards frequent, authentic video and can reach people who've never heard of you.
Google Business Profile
At least one post per week. Profile posts are quick to create and help keep your listing active for local searchers.
Quality Still Wins
Ten forgettable posts won't outperform two great ones. Before you increase how often you post, make sure each post does at least one of these jobs:
Teaches something useful
Shows your real work, team, or results
Tells a story people connect with
Invites people to take a next step
If social media hasn't been working for you, the issue might not be how often you post. Our post on why your social media isn't working covers the most common problems.
How to Post Consistently Without Burning Out
1. Choose one or two main platforms. Go where your customers already spend time instead of trying to be everywhere.
2. Batch your content. Plan and create a week or a month of posts in one sitting.
3. Use content pillars. Pick three or four themes you can talk about forever, like tips, behind the scenes, customer stories, and offers. Our guide to building a content strategy shows how.
4. Repurpose what you create. One video shoot can become Reels, TikToks, Stories, and a Facebook post.
5. Schedule ahead. Use Meta Business Suite or a scheduling tool so posts go out even on busy weeks.
How to Know If It's Working
Pay attention to the numbers that connect to your business:
Reach and new followers
Profile visits and website clicks
Messages and calls
Leads and sales
If engagement drops when you post more often, scale back and focus on quality. If it grows, you've found room to post more.
